27/08/08 -The Fat Face Ultimate Convoy

Monday 1st September sees the start of a 5 day convoy from the September Sessions event in Brandon Bay, Ireland all the way to the Fat Face Night Windsurf event on Hayling island. The idea is to stop at different beaches along the route and meet up with fellow SUP, Windsurf, Surf, Kitesurf guys and have a session. It's a fun affair, with prizes. Fat Face are inviting everyone to get invovled either by meeting them and the team on route or by following their progress online. 27/08/08 -September Sessions

Europe's first stand alone SUP event is back and happening this weekend. The September Sessions is being held on the West Coast of Ireland at Jamie Knox Watersports in Brandon Bay. There are still a few places left in the event and check in starts at 9am on Saturday. The forecast is looking great and a lot of people are in situ getting in some practice. 26/08/08 -Summer SUPping

Ok so it might not have been the best summer for sun so far, but that hasn't stopped a whole raft of people from getting out on their boards and having some fun. We've been bombarded with pictures and stories from you guys and have put together a great collection of shots. Check them out HERE

05/08/08 -Inflatable in the Med!

Steve Carter sent us this nice little story from his time in the Med on a Sunsail sailing holiday. He packed two Uli inflatable boards in his checked luggage and headed off for a week of Island Hopping in the med. Read his story HERE. 29/07/08 -Animal Windfest SUP Race

The Animal Windfest is hosting a BSUPA Distance race on the weekend of the 13th/14th September. The race will be around Brownsea Island, which is a stunning location. It doesn't count towards any overall rankings so should be a great fun event. The Saturday night party is also legendary. We will update you with more detailed race info when we get it. 22/07/08 - Monster waves

This picture has been doing the rounds for a while now but we thought it would be worth posting here for some light relief during this small summer swell period. 21/07/08 - SUP gets Shipwrecked

For those fans of the tropical island reality show Shipwrecked you may be interested to hear that one of the "stars" from the show Rowan Bailey was Stand Up Paddling in Newquay last week. Check out the pictures HERE

16/07/08 - SUP on BBC!

One of the BBC's most popular programs profiled John Hibbard and Stand Up Paddle Surfing on their Sunday morning show. Countryfile, which covers news stories relating to all kinds of things to do with life in the outdoors, interviewed John and produced a video diary with John and his SUP board.You can watch the piece by clicking HERE - click play and advance the "timeline" slider to about 15:25. 16/07/08 - September Sessions - The Return - places going Fast

Last Septemeber saw the UK's first ever SUP contest. The event was called The September Sessions and was held at Watergate Bay in Newquay. This year we are bringing The September Sessions back - we've updated the concept and will be making it accessible to all levels of sup rider. It's going to be a great event. 11/07/08 -Ekolu Kalama the interview

Anybody who came along to the Paddle Round Pier event no doubt bumped into Ekolu during Saturday and those that were at the party will have seen him rock the crowds with his guitar. After the PRTP he hit the road for a week of visiting shops and surfing in the rain! We caught up with him moments before he flew home. Watch the video interview HERE

10/07/08 -SUP is heating up!!

06/07/08 -Paddle Round The Pier - Oxbow Distance Race Success

The forecast wasn't great and Saturday morning dawned wet and breezy, but that didn't put off 20 or so riders arriving at the beach at 6.30am for the Oxbow Distance Race. Read all about it HERE

01/07/08 -Ekolu Kalama is heading this way!

Ekolu Kalama will be attending the Paddle Round the Pier event in Brighton this coming weekend (5th-6th July). He will be taking part in the SUP Endurance race as well as taking time to hang out in the paddle village and do the fun paddle on the Sunday afternoon. READ MORE about Ekolu HERE

26/06/08 -SUP fun for all this weekend courtesy of TAD and South Devon Paddle Club!

There are loads of events going on this summer that involve SUP from competitions to demo days. All the ones that we know about are listed on the EVENTS page. The guys down at TAD in Exmouth though are about to embark on what could be their busiest weekend of the summer. 18/06/08 BSUPA Round Two - Full Report

A great weekend was had by all at the Second Round of the BSUPA Champs. The guys from Sunset Surf hosted a great event and with the backup from the sponsors everybody had a good time and the goddie bag and prize pot was over flowing. To see the pics and read the story click HERE

11/06/08 - BSUPA Round 2....... and the Prize fund is growing

With two days left to go before the start of the second round of the BSUPA champs at Gwithian in Cornwall the prize fund is growing. The goodie bags for pre registered entrants is worth well in excess of £50 now and the prizes up for the grabs for the event are really looking good - they won't just be going to the top finishers either. 20/05/08 - Brush Boarding has arrived

Ok, so we admit it isn't 100% to do with SUP, but this new wave riding simulator is the best thing we've seen for a while. 13/05/08 - Jersey gets infected with SUP Fever

Jonno from Active Island Sports in Jersey contacted us to tell us that he is getting fully into SUP. He offers sessions from beginner taster sessions through to fulll blown coastal cruises. He also offers hire and plans to sell equipment as well. He's already running fully booked cruises. Check the pics HERE

11/05/08 - BSUPA Round One -UPDATED

Round One of the BSUPA Championships is almost upon us. The event it being held at West Wittering Beach on 17th-18th May (next weekend). It will be a perfect time to meet up with all the sup riders from around the UK. It will be only the second time a full blown SUP comp has been run in the UK. We are really excited about it. The forecast is looking perfect for some Distance racing and the plan is to run a few different length races throughout the weekend. There will also be some coaching sessions with the top riders - for free! Come along and check it out. It will be a great weekend, especially if the sun shines.

05/05/08 - English Surfing Nationals - SUP Exhibition Contest

This past weekend saw the staging of the Headworx English Surfing Nationals. Now in its 36th year the event saw an exhibition comp with 8 invited riders given the opportunity to compete in an unofficial contest to promote SUP. The final was held on bank holiday Monday in front of a packed beach at Watergate Bay, Newquay. For results and a round up click HERE

03/05/08 - SUP rescue crew / Aka Baywatch styleee

We can't tell you anything about it yet, but we just wanted to let you know that we are in the final planning stages of something cool for the end of August. If you are into sup and want to move forward with it or get started or even just want to meet up with like minded souls then keep the last week in August free! It's going to be a cool week. 08/04/08 - International Relations

We've got a great community going on here now with over 100 forumm members, 99% of whom are based in the UK, which is great seeing as we are a UK based site focussing on UK based sup stuff, but if you would like to chat with some of our "brotherhood" further a field then check out THIS commuinty site. 03/04/08 - Paddle Round The Pier needs you!

The Paddle Round The Pier event has been going from strength to strength over the last few years. This is all good, but with the increased popularity comes an increase in the help needed to make the event run smoothly. The organisers are looking for helpers for this years event that takes place between the 5-6th July. 31/03/08 - Corduroy Lines - Issue 4 Out Now

The latest issue of the UK's Number one online Longboard Magazine is out now and it has some nice sup content from an interview with Laird through to a intro to sup written by John Hibbard (who would like to point out that it was a cold day for the photo shoot and that wetsuit was the only dry one he had left in the van) - Whatever John!. 30/03/08 - We've expanded

05/03/08 - Winter, what winter?

Check out these shots of Jonathan Beamish enjoying some mellow winter sup surfing. Jonathan says " I think SUP is the ideal Winter watersport as you stay drier and the extra energy expended keeps you warmer. It was bout 3 degrees on Sunday but I didn’t really notice the cold". We have to agree with him. We are often jumping in to cool off - or that is what we say when that freak lump of chop throws us off "....dude, I'm was so hot I just had to jump in"!! 20/02/08 - Demo Days and events

The spring and summer season is just around the corner and we are hearing more and more about sup demo days. The season kicks off on the weekend of April 5th and 6th on the south coast with a Saturday demo at Surfladle in Shoreham and then a great sup demo at Airhead in Rustington, Littlehampton. 19/02/08 - Italian SUP Site

How's your Italian? As sup fever spreads around the globe, so we see more and more sup sites come online. Most recent is Standuppaddling.it. There are videos and info on the site from the likes of Robby Naish, etc and right now the UK's John Hibbard is featured on the home page. 11/02/08 - Up a creek, with a paddle

After an epic weekend of surfing along the north and south Devon and Cornwall coasts as well as the hotpots on the south coast of Dorest, Hampshire and Sussex picking up some nice waves, you'd be forgiven for thinking that SUP is just a surf orientated sport. You'd be wrong though and here to remind us that the biggest potential for SUP is in flat water conditions is the crew from Solent Sailboards in Calshot. 05/02/08 - If Gerry Lopez says it's good, who are we to argue?

Gerry Lopez is a surfing legend, I don't think anybody can argue about that. He has recently written a story about his experience with Stand Up Paddle Surfing. Gerry has a certain way with words, which makes for a dreamy, colourful tale. We try to make the stories on this site revolve around the people that are out there paddling. This goes from people taking their very first paddle strokes, through to legends like Gerry. 02/02/08 - Fat Face winner announced

29/01/08 - Adam Zervas paddles in to the Cribbar

15/01/08 - From Super Models to Super Sized Swell!

So if yesterday was a day for super models and cruising on flat water, then today is a day for big waves and serious action. The QuiksilverEdition Ku Ikaika Challenge starts today. It's the first big wave SUP event to be staged and it certainly looks like being a full on event. The comp won't start until wave face size hits 20ft. The waiting period starts today. There are some big names in the event too, including Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Tom Carroll, Robby Naish, etc. Check out the full details HERE

14/01/08 - They're all getting into it now!

First there was Courtney Cox, then Jennifer Aniston and now Cindy Crawford. It would appear that the SUP fitness bug is spreading if this feature in Grazia Magazine is anything to go by (it gives a good mention for Martin down at Discovery Surf in Bigbury as well). Check it out HERE

12/01/08 - London SUP (well Surrey, but inside the M25!)

Regular readers of this site will know that we see a big future in flat water SUP as well as surf. It's great to see others seeing the potential in it too. Blue Chip in Cheam, Surrey have been in contact to say that they are getting well into SUP and are fully stocked with a range of boards. Not only that but they have arranged an SUP event away from the River Thames (!) down in Pagham (27/04/08). They've even got their own SUP website check it out HERE

22/12/07 - Corduroy Lines the premier online longboard surf mag

Corduroy Lines are getting right behind SUP. Their current issue has a great story about The September Sessions event from back in September, and right now on the home page there is an interview video with Team Starboard rider Brian Talma (the cheerful Bajan who came over for the September Sessions event). 13/12/07 - BSUPA Winter Warm Up Day - Saturday 15th December

Those nice, positive people over at the British Stand Up Paddle Surfing Association are organising a "meet". Here's the info:BSUPA Winter Warm Up - Saturday December 15th - Noon till Dusk - West Wittering Windsurfing Club - West Sussex. PO20 8AU. Get down there for a cool (!) day of paddling. 18/10/07 - New S.U.P instructional DVD out

There is a new instructional S.U.P DVD on the market. We've watched it and it gives some good tips for starting out. It's made in Hawaii so there is a bit of Americanism to wade through but all in all it is very good. Airhead in Rustington have some in stock and do mail order.

Yet more Stand Up Paddle Surfing press coverage. This time there is a nice feature in Coast Magazine with Martin Connolly from Discovery Surf School in Bigbury, Devon. It also shows pictures of Adam Zervas and John Hibbard. Then there is a 4 page feature in Canoe and Kayak Magazine with John Hibbard. 11/09/07 - BBC South cover Stand Up Paddle Surfing

Check out BBC South Today's stand up paddle surfing story, which ran on the early evening news today at 6.45pm. John Hibbard was the guy featured and despite tiny waves the piece came across well. Check it out HERE

07/09/07 - September Sessions FULL

We've been totally bowled over by the demand for places in the Stand Up Paddle Surfing Championships at Watergate Bay on the 29th September. The entry list in the open fleet is totally rammed with a alternate list of people already swelling. We'd love to allow more places in the event but time constraints for heats, etc and safety cover don't allow this. ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED There will still be the full range of new Starboard S.U.P boards to try out (9'8", 11'2, 12' and 12'6), and the beach is going to be buzzing with S.U.P banter, so it will be great to see you all down at the beach. If you would like to be considered for any spare places please drop us an email by clicking HERE. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

It's going to be a great event and we hope to see as many of you down there as possible. More news to follow soon on the schedule for the day. Going by the demand for spaces in this event we plan to run a full series of events next year, which will have more entry spaces. Watch this space for more news on this towards the end of the year.

03/09/07 - PGL weekend with Fat Face a Stand Up Success

This weekend saw PGL join forces with Fat Face to put on a family weekend. Part of the weekend was a canoe session, which saw Fat Face team rider John Hibbard attend to give demonstrations and taster sessions of Stand Up Paddle boarding. Read about it HERE

02/09/07 - September Sessions gets it's first "international" entrant

Menno from the Kiteshop in Holland has sent in his entry form to join us at The UK Stand Up Paddle Surfing Championships. Menno stocks SUP boards in his shop and is possibly the Nederlands keenest S.U.P rider. We look forward to welcoming him to the competition. Check out his website HERE

22/08/07 - Dave Kalama on Transworld Sport

Thanks to Chris aka "Kitesurfer" over on our forums for pointing this out. Our guess is that it will have some form of S.U.P in the story. Dave Kalama is one of the early pioneers of Tow Surfing and as well as being a ex pro windsurfer he is also leading the charge in Stand Up Paddle Surfing. It's probably going to be worth checking out. The only disadvantage is that it is being aired at 4am on Staurday morning on Channel 4!Check out our FORUM HERE

The beauty of Stand Up Paddle surfing is that it massivley extends your water time. Flat Days are not a problem anymore and even when away from the coast you can get out on the board in almost anybody of water. Sometimes though you might struggle to get out on the water and this is where the Indo Board could be of use to help you retain and imporove you core fitness. Adam Zervas tells us all about it HERE
